Willem is a petroleum exploration and production professional, with a background in geophysics and petroleum economics and 36 years experience. He participated in the transformation of South Africa’s state-owned companies, SOEKOR E&P and Mossgas, into the creation of PetroSA. Willem has held various senior managerial roles, including General Manager of E&P and Vice President: New Business and Chief Economist. He advises Earth Resource Investments AG on topics covering oil, gas and renewable energy.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Geophysics from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and a M.Com degree in Mineral Economics from Rand Afrikaans University, South Africa. Willem was awarded the Elephant Award by Global Pacific in 2006 for distinguished contribution to the African industry, and the Conrad Gerber Award by the African Institute of Petroleum in 2010 for research and intellectual contribution to Africa. He has presented a course on Petroleum Economics to various companies and institutions including the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo. He also completed the online Financial Modeling Renewable Energy: Solar & Wind programme.
